Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a chemical found in the Cannabis sativa plant that people use to treat various conditions. CBD products have shown potential to help with several common issues people have, including anxiety, depression, chronic pain, or PTSD.
You may have heard that CBD comes from a hemp plant, which can give the wrong idea. Many people mistake CBD products for marijuana and wrongly assume that they can make you high. While both CBD and THC are sourced from cannabis, there several important differences you should understand.
At Red Raven CBD, we believe in educating everyone about CBD. This means we also care about disproving the misconceptions behind it. So, here is a guide on everything you need to know about CBD versus THC.

Where Do CBD and THC Come From?
Cannabinoid (CBD) and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are derived from the cannabis plant. However, CBD is extracted legally through hemp, as it contains less concentrated amounts of THC and higher traces of CBD. To be considered a hemp, a cannabis plant must contain 0.3 percent or less THC. Hemp is used in many common goods, including clothing and cosmetics.
Marijuana has higher concentrations of THC, the chemical responsible for the “high” effect that people feel when they consume weed. THC has psychoactive abilities, whereas CBD is not considered a psychoactive element.
Hemp plants can be easily grown across the U.S., but each state has its own laws regarding CBD and marijuana usage. The most commonly known places for these products include Colorado and Alaska. Red Raven CBD is based out of Alaska and works to serve everyone in the community and people in Hawaii and the lower 48.
CBD products are commonly used for daily remedies to mitigate people’s pain. These hemp-derived products are available as:
- Full-spectrum CBD: products that are extracted from the full hemp plant – including trace amounts of THC and other cannabinoids
- Broad spectrum CBD: products that have no THC but include trace amounts of cannabinoids
- CBD isolate: products that only contain CBD and have no THC or other cannabinoids included
CBD is not an FDA-approved product, but there is one cannabinoid medication permitted for use. Epidiolex is a medication used to mitigate epilepsy and seizures in people over the age of two years old.
CBD products can be bought in stores and online. However, it would help if you learned more about the CBD company you’re buying from to ensure that you’re getting a quality product before purchasing.
Is THC in CBD Products Bad for You?
While consuming THC in larger quantities can get you high, the trace amount found in full-spectrum CBD products is not enough to cause any psychoactive effects. There is some research on what is called the “entourage effect,” which reveals that our body’s endocannabinoid system may benefit more from taking CBD and THC together (along with other terpenes found in hemp) than just taking CBD alone.
Although there is still plenty of research that supports CBD being beneficial when taken on its own, it’ worth considering if full-spectrum products with less than 0.3% THC could be right for your needs. If you’re in occupation that is subject to drug testing, such as law enforcement, the THC in full-spectrum products may show up on a drug test – so CBD isolate is recommended in this situation.
What Can CBD Do?
The full capability of CBD is unknown, as more studies are being conducted. However, many people have given accounts of how CBD has impacted their life. Many people who suffer from anxiety, depression, stress, or PTSD find that CBD helps mitigate their symptoms and allow them to return to their life.
Some studies show the possibilities that CBD could have on people suffering from chronic pain. Many people found their quality of life improved after taking CBD to mitigate their symptoms.
The way CBD interacts with the body allows its pain receptors to lessen and enable the body to heal. CBD is commonly associated with being an anti-inflammatory that decreases swelling in many ways.
People have found that CBD has helped them with many issues, including:
- Pain relief
- Anxiety and stress
- Depression
- PTSD
- Heart Disease
- Acne
- Injury Recovery
- Drug addiction
- Insomnia
- Daily well-being
Some people use CBD products to help their children’s ADHD and other mental conditions, as it’s a safe alternative to prescribed medication. Make sure to talk with your child’s pediatrician before giving them CBD and follow the guide on administering the product at a safe level.
Many pet owners also use CBD to help their animal’s chronic pains or anxiety. It’s common to give dogs CBD pet tinctures or treats that help with joint pain.
